Field Library
The reading room at the end of the dirt road.
The Field Library is our collection of resources, references, and recommended reading. Think of it as the bookshelf in the workshop — the stuff we keep reaching for, the things that shaped how we think about land, craft, self-reliance, and living deliberately.
Some of these are our own publications. Some are books and resources by other people that we think are worth your time. All of them connect back to the same idea: if you want to live a more intentional, hands-on life, you need good information from people who’ve actually done the work.
Sections
Our Publications
Books, guides, and longer works published by Black Sapling Studios. Fiction, nonfiction, and practical references from Jason Vaughn and future Black Sapling Press authors.
Recommended Reading
Books we keep on the shelf. Our picks for homesteading, natural living, botanical knowledge, field skills, creative writing, and independent thinking. These aren’t affiliate links disguised as recommendations. These are the actual books that influenced how this place was built.
Guides & References
Practical reference material — ingredient glossaries, essential oil safety guides, homesteading checklists, and how-to resources. Some of these we’ve written ourselves. Some we’ve curated from trusted sources. All of them are designed to be useful, not decorative.
Community Contributions
As the Black Sapling community grows, this is where other voices will show up. Recommended reading lists from community members, guest-written guides, and resources submitted by people who are living this life alongside us. This section is a seed right now. It will grow.
